 The court case which AfriForum brought against Malema’s hate speech is widely reported in the media. The court case is continued on 19 and 20 May when the advocates will make their closing arguments. It is expected that the judge will then give his ruling within a couple of weeks. AfriForum is extremely positive about its chance of success. Flip Buys, chairperson of AfriForum explains why the case had to be brought.

POPCRU tree toe tot Renate Barnard saak

 

Die polisievakbond POPCRU gaan as vriend van die hof toetree in die regstellendeaksie-appélhofsaak tussen die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens en Solidariteit namens Renate Barnard. Die saak gaan môre om 10:00, in die arbeidshof in Johannesburg aangehoor word.

Die hofsaak wat AfriForum teen Malema se haatspraak gemaak het word wyd in die media rapporteer. Die hofsaak word op 19 en 20 Mei voortgesit, waar die advokate elkeen sy afsluitingsbetoog sal lewer. Die regter sal daarna sy uitspraak gee, na verwagting binne ʼn paar weke. AfriForum is baie positief oor die kanse op sukses. Mass action in May (The New Age)
The SA Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) says municipal workers are planning a campaign of “rolling mass action” to protest against growing attacks on its membership, which takes the form of dismissals and suspensions. The mass action will begin in the Free State in Bloemfontein on 10 May, followed by a national march in Gauteng on 11 May and a one-day strike on 13 May.  A decision will be made soon on when the Northern Cape action would begin.

Denosa, Netcare in talks to avert strike (Eyewitness News)
After wage talks between the Democratic Nursing Organisation of SA (Denosa) and Netcare deadlocked earlier last week, the union announced that its members intended to down tools, but an emergency meeting will be held between the parties in a bid to avert a strike.  Denosa members are demanding a 10% wage increase, while the company is firm at 6% for Medicross and 7% at Netcare.

  Solidariteit voer saak teen SAPD namens kaptein Renate Barnard

Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) en Solidariteit pak mekaar eerskomende Woensdag (4 Mei om 10:00) in die arbeidsappèlhof in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. Die saak wat Solidariteit namens kaptein Renate Barnard voer, duur al meer as vyf jaar. Dié opspraakwekkende regstellendeaksie-saak kan die toepassing van regstellende aksie vir altyd in Suid-Afrika verander. Die arbeidshof het reeds ten gunste van Barnard beslis, maar die SAPD het die uitspraak op appèl geneem.
